Our family wishes to celebrate the life of Cornelia “Nellie” Garibay (née Cotto Perez). Born on April 8, 1941, in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico to Ignacio Cotto Gomez and Elisa Perez Gonzalez. She married Gerardo Garibay Cervantes in Chicago, Illinois in 1973.
Robert “Bob” W. Ekstrom, 88, Superior resident, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born June 10, 1934, to Warren and Ann (Schmiege) Ekstrom in Superior, WI.
Gwendolyn Jean Nelson (“Gwen”), 91, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 6, 2022 with family at her side. Gwen was born on July 11, 1931 in Duluth, the only child of William and Gertrude (Langlee) Peterson. She graduated in 1948 at the age of 16 from Denfeld High School and was anxious to put her typing and bookkeeping skills to use, working at the Courthouse and Coolerator, where she made several lifelong friends. She married the love of her life, Donald Nelson, on September 20, 1952, and together they owned and operated Don’s Swirly Top (an ice cream shop) during Don’s college years. They enjoyed 40 years of love and laughter together before Don died of cancer.
Dorothy Amanda Heitmann, 95, of Lake City, died on Thursday evening, November 3, 2022, at Elysian Senior Homes in Lake City. She was born April 10, 1927, in Lake City to Claus and Freida (Tiedemann) Dettmer. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church - Lincoln in rural Lake City. Following her graduation in 1945 from Lincoln High School in Lake City she was employed by Citizens Fund Insurance Company in Red Wing.
Beverly A. Schumacher, 90, of Superior, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Elysian Senior Homes of Duluth, with her family at her bedside.
