Lafayette Police say a man was killed in a crash Thursday night on Surrey Street when another driver struck a utility trailer fatally pinning the man between the trailer and his vehicle
Police say that on January 28, 2021 at approximately 9:50 pm, Lafayette Police responded to an accident in the 1200 block of Surrey Street.
The driver of a stalled white Chevrolet truck was attempting to reattach his utility trailer to his vehicle when the driver of another vehicle struck the utility trailer. Police say the impact of the crash pushed the utility trailer into the driver and fatally pinned him in between the two. The driver of the stalled vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Man Dies in Fatal Crash in Lafayette
58-year-old Elton Charles of New Iberia has been arrested after a fatal crash Thursday night in Lafayette took the life of 46-year-old Jesus Carrion.
According to a press release from Lafayette Police, spokesperson Senior Corporal Bridgette Dugas says the incident happened in the 1200 block of Surrey Street shortly before 10:00 p.m. Dugas says Carrion was trying to reattach his utility trailer to his truck when Charles truck slammed into the trailer, pushing it into Carrion and pinning him between the trailer and his stalled truck. Carrion died at the scene.
Dugas says Charles was arrested after he was tested for alcohol. He has been charged with Vehicular Homicide, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Careless Operation.
