Fall River COVID vaccine: Phase 2 begins Monday, but not all sites

FALL RIVER Not every Phase 2 vaccination site in Fall River will be rolling into action on Monday. Both CVS on President Avenue and Walgreens on Plymouth Avenue will begin administering COVID-19  vaccines on that first day of Phase 2, as part of the commonwealth’s long-term vaccination program. But that’s not the case for the new regional inoculation site on the campus of Bristol Community College. That site won’t swing into action until Wednesday, according to Elaina Pevide, spokeswoman for Mayor Paul Coogan. And Pevide said the regional site on Elsbree Street “for the foreseeable future” will only be open to the public on Wednesdays.

Regional vaccine site opening at Bristol Community College, Fall River

FALL RIVER Bristol Community College is about to become a regional COVID-19 vaccination site. Mayor Paul Coogan made the announcement Thursday afternoon during an outdoor press conference on the main BCC campus. He said the vaccination site will be available to anyone living in the state. The new regional vaccination site could be up and running by as soon as next week, according to Tess Curran, the city’s Health and Human Services Director. Curran will oversee the vaccination clinic, which will be the second inoculation site on the campus. The first Bristol vaccination site, which also has been supervised by Curran, has been providing Moderna vaccine shots for the past week and a half to first responders including police officers, firefighters, fire department EMTs and BCC campus police.

Cambridge company offering free COVID testing in Fall River

FALL RIVER Free COVID-19 testing six days a week is an offer that’s hard to refuse. The Cambridge company contracted by the state to administer mass vaccine inoculations at Gillette Stadium will also be providing free nasal-swab tests in a parking lot of Bristol Community College. CIC Health, a subsidiary of Cambridge Innovation Center, or CIC for short, will do a soft opening of sorts on Saturday in parking lot number 3 in front of the BCC campus. The Cambridge company has been contracted by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as part of the state’s Stop the Spread program.
