Movie memories: Former Ellwood City theater remembered
By Louise Carroll
For The Ledger
ELLWOOD CITY – It has been more than 35 years since the Majestic Theater at 506 Lawrence Ave. was destroyed by fire on Jan. 11, 1984, but memories of the theater remain fresh and vivid for many.
When the daughters of former co-owner Andy Biordi visited the Ellwood City Area Historical Society recently, they brought memorabilia to donate and family memories of the theater.
Celeste Biordi Janosko, accompanied by her sisters Diane, Connie and Merceda, enjoyed a tour of the history center and especially the Pe Wee display that had drawn a crowd to the building. They brought a 35mm film that was donated by Lucretia Biordi Elsen, who lives in Pittsburgh. Elsen and her sister, Joan, are the daughters of Frank, who was Andy Biordi s brother and co-owner of the Majestic. The film could not be mailed because it is flammable.
