Ellis County Population Projected To Grow Rapidly
Ellis County, TX – On Tuesday, May 18th, the Ellis County Commissioner’s Court voted to enter a $316,996 professional services agreement with Kitchell, a professional building services firm who, with their partner HOK a design firm, will provide long-range (long-term) planning, conduct an existing facilities needs assessment, and provide construction management services. The agreement will help the county determine what kinds of facilities improvements may be necessary and develop a long-term plan to implement those improvements. Public meetings and information sessions will be forthcoming later this year to share planning information and gain input from citizens.
City may allow side-by-sides for city streets

Side-by-side alternative vehicles may show up before long on the city streets of Hays, if enthusiasts of the small, nimble non-automobiles get their wish.
Used primarily for sport or agriculture, the smaller than standard, four-wheel vehicles are popular with farmers and with those who like to play on sand dunes and off-road.
At Thursday’s regular work session of the city commission, a group of residents asked the commissioners to approve an ordinance allowing them on the streets of Hays.
The vehicles, some of which can go upwards of 65 miles an hour, already are legal on the highways of Kansas, as well as in the towns of Ellis, Victoria, Ness City, Garden City, Dodge City and other cities in western Kansas.
Tax measure will boost infrastructure in Bardwell Lake area

An agreement with the city of Ennis to enter into a tax increment reinvestment zone, or TIRZ, in the area of U.S. Highway 287 and Bardwell Lake drew discussion before being approved during Tuesday’s meeting of the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court.
Commissioners unanimously OK’d the agreement to join into the TIRZ pact between the county and Ennis. The newest TIRZ is the third for the city.
A TIRZ is a method of funding development in undeveloped areas under Texas state law. Funds from property taxes are set aside to develop infrastructure in the defined area within the zone.
