Rockbridge County sits on the western edge of the state in the Shenandoah Valley – just over 600 square miles with a population of fewer than 23,000 people – most of them speakers of English. Jobs in factories and mills, on farms and in restaurants has drawn a small number of Spanish speakers, and this summer their kids found an island of bi-lingual fun at Washington and Lee University.
