Wildfire sparks in logging debris near Elkton in Douglas County
Fire crews responded to a report of fire in rural Douglas County Tuesday evening.
The Mehl Creek Fire moved quickly through logging debris in an area three miles southwest of Elkton, according to the Douglas Forest Protective Association.
When crews arrived, the fire was estimated at 40 acres in an area previously logged. Windy conditions pushed the fire to between 150 to 200 acres as of midnight, officials said.
As of early Wednesday, crews were working to construct containment lines and cool the perimeter of the fire.
Officials estimated zero percent containment and said no homes were threatened and no evacuations were in place.
