Community Investors with Byrd’s In this series of articles about Community Investment, Tommy and Thomas Byrd, owners of Byrd’s House of Donuts, answer the question, “Why did you invest in Elkins and why do you continue to invest?” We’ve always wanted to own a business and in 2016 that opportunity presented itself with a ready-made donut shop. The thing is, neither one of us had ever made a donut! But the shop was set up, the equipment was there, and we were ready to take the opportunity we saw in front of us. So, Byrd’s House of Donuts was born in a rented space on the Beverly Pike/5-lane.

CHARLES FRIDDLE Charles Friddle, an incumbent Second Ward representative on Elkins City Council, retired from FirstEnergy, parent of Mon Power, after 33 years of service. A native of Petersburg, he has lived in Morgantown, Moorefield, Weston, Clarksburg and moved to Elkins in 1984. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1974 with a degree in Business Administration and a major in Marketing. He has spent the majority of his career specializing in Economic Development. Currently he is a member of the Randolph County Development Authority, was the director of the Harrison County Development Authority and served on the Development Authority in Hardy County.

Add Kump Center to first annual report | News, Sports, Jobs

heatherbiola@yahoo.com Thanks to Lisa Wood, director of the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, we have been building a more “Vibrant Community.” Even the coronavirus has not stopped thirty-some businesses from making improvements during the last year. The Inter-Mountain’s “Lifestyles” section listed these vibrant businesses last week in an article about the first annual 2020 Vibrant Elkins–Randolph County community report compiled by Randolph County officials, under a delightful photo of the dancing couple at Myles Center, but the report forgot to add Kump Education Center improvements. KEC is a nonprofit member of the chamber, but we have made many improvements in our facility providing jobs for local contractors during this pandemic. Last spring Brian Shourd of Cardamone Historical worked with AmeriCorps member Frankie Evans to rehabilitate the crumbling plaster on the second floor for new rental space.

Jan 19, 2021 ELKINS The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber is pleased to announce the first Spotlight Business of the Month, the Randolph County Development Authority. It’s important to note that to fulfill the Chamber’s mission, our members include businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals who wish to enhance all aspects of opportunities in Elkins and Randolph County. The Randolph County Development Authority serves as the lead economic development organization for Randolph County. Established in 1977 by the Randolph County Commission, the RCDA is governed by a board of directors and has a staff of three. Staff includes Kris Wilmoth, office manager, Mike McCauley, training coordinator, and Robbie Morris, executive director. The board of directors is led by Gary Clay and is comprised of a diverse group of individuals from various industry sectors, backgrounds, and areas of the county.
