Elkin seventh-grader Aidan Ballard donates to the Water for South Sudan fundraiser.
HOW TO DONATE
Elkin City Schools seventh-graders are working to raise $1,000 to donate to the Water for South Sudan project, which helps build wells in Africa. If the class meets its fundraising goal, it will be entered in a drawing to receive an in-person or virtual visit from either the author or the inspirational main character of the book “A Long Walk to Water.”

My beautiful, ebullient, incredibly creative granddaughter Megan has a problem; she is addicted to cheese. All kinds of cheese: Brie, Mozzarella, Ricotta, Camembert, Muenster, Jarlsburg, Gouda, Monterey Jack, Edam, Romano, Feta, Provolone, Parmesan, and Cheddar. Her favorite is Cheddar. When she is not eating cheese, she is fantasizing about eating cheese.
Megan is now an adult and has always been an important part of our lives. She and her brother Patrick were regular visitors in our home when they were youngsters and lived in Elkin with their parents. Even after my son David accepted a position with Service Merchandise and moved to Franklin, a little town outside of Nashville, Tennessee, his family visited often.
