Named for the late historian Herbert Roth, the
award is presented annually to the work published in the
previous calendar year that best depicts the history of work
and resistance in New Zealand.

Millar, and Ross Webb

The Orr family moved to Stratford in 1856 after first emigrating to the Pennsylvania area from Ireland. Thomas Sr. and Frances already had two young children: Martha Ann and John. They would go on to have five more children: Thomas Jr., who died in childhood, Joseph, William, Sarah, Robert Thomas and Henry Noble. Thomas Sr. was a builder and was responsible for building many Stratford homes, including the Orr family residence on 50 Cobourg St., where the family lived from 1873 onward.
