BSO unveil new season of concerts and touring

The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra has unveiled another ambitious season of live-streamed concerts and a return to symphonic touring this autumn. The world-renowned BSO will tour symphonic performances and continue its series of On Your Doorstep’ chamber-scale performances across the south west. Among the many anticipated highlights will be Brahms Violin Concerto, Shostakovich Piano Concerto No.2, Sibelius Symphony No 1, The Armed Man by Sir Karl Jenkins, Beethoven s Symphony No 7 and Grieg s Piano Concerto. Three new works written by women will feature in the 2021/22 concert year including Carmen Ho’s new work, commissioned by the BSO and receiving its world premiere under the baton of Kirill Karabits in Poole in November.

New impact grants expand humanities research

June 9, 2021 The Society for the Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences has added to its Humanities Grants offerings in 2021, awarding the new Humanities Impact Grants. Two public-facing projects by Cornell faculty have received $10,000 each to “engage in broader public conversations with social impact in mind,” funded by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation. Xak Bjerken “These new projects are meant to be ‘unconventional’ and have a social impact outcome,” said Emmanuel Giannelis, vice president for research and innovation. “They are supposed to catalyze new collaborations, be outward looking with a reach outside the academy, and address a current issue.”
