Purdue Extension updates guides for fruit and vegetable growers

Purdue Extension updates guides for fruit and vegetable growers WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Several updated resources from Purdue Extension will help fruit and vegetable growers stay on top of the latest crop management strategies and research. The 2021 Midwest Vegetable Production Guide for Commercial Growers (ID-56) is available online to download for free. This annual guide is a summary of currently suggested vegetable varieties, seeding rates, fertilizer rates, weed control, insect control and disease control measures for commercial growers. The online version found at mwveguide.org is searchable by crop, pest and control measures and is accessible on any platform from smartphone to desktop. The 2021 version of ID-56 will not be offered for sale as hard copies by Purdue Extension. Spirally bound copies of the guide may be ordered.

They were an excuse to bring the old and the young together to celebrate love and tradition. Now, weddings look much different, but that doesn’t mean the charm isn’t there anymore. Couples who decided not to postpone their wedding amid the pandemic are now reimagining their big day to be a little smaller. “Many couples have decided to do smaller, more intimate weddings,” said Christine Ashburn, owner of The Soiree Studio. “As long as they’re able to still have their wedding in the county in which it’s taking place and make it happen with current government regulations, they don’t want to wait. They want to celebrate their love.”

Helen M. (Jones) Detra, 67, of Mifflin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at Hershey Medical Center. Born July 3, 1953 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth D. and Helen M. (Kauffman) Jones. She is survived by two daughters, Lesa Kramer and husband, Joe, and Catheanne L. Long and husband, Joseph, all of Mifflin, one sister, Kathy R. Bohince and husband, Richard, of Newport News, Va., five grandchildren, Autumn Young, Joseph Long, Joseph Kramer, Jr., Elizabeth Long, and Bradley Long, one great-granddaughter, Emma Young, one niece, Jessica E. Bohince, and one nephew, Richard Bohince. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Brendan Young, Bethany Elizabeth Love, and Sarah Long and one son-in-law, David Young.
