The Tipton Lady Cardinals don’t have to travel very far to begin their bid for a spot in the Class 2 girls basketball Final Four.
Tipton (27-1) will begin bracket play tonight against the New Franklin Lady Bulldogs (20-8) at Fleming Fieldhouse. Game time is 6 p.m.
It’s a state-ranked softball battle for a berth in the Class 4 Final Four. The Helias Lady Crusaders (26-6) head to Camdenton today to take on the Lady Lakers (24-8) in a quarterfinal contest. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Camdenton Softball Field.
The St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets had a 2-1 record Saturday, beating the North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds 9-5 in the third-place game of the California/Versailles Turf War Tournament.
The St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets couldn’t ever get over the hump. In Tuesday night’s Class 1 girls basketball sectional game against Walnut Grove, the Lady Hornets cut the Lady Tigers’ lead to two points on a handful of occasions. But they could never tie it or take the lead. Finally, the Lady Tigers were able to pull away for good. Walnut Grove went 16-of-18 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to take a 57-42 victory against the Lady Hornets at Camdenton High School.
The St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets played three games in a 26-hour time frame this weekend in the Calvary Lutheran Tournament, but they made it look like a walk in the park. St. Elizabeth cruised to a first-place finish Saturday night, leading all but the opening 90 seconds of a 48-31 victory against the Vienna Lady Eagles in the championship game.
