Researchers at the
University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) on April 27 began enrolling children ages 6 months to 11 years old in a clinical trial of the Moderna mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine, which has already received Food and Drug Administration emergency use authorization to prevent COVID-19 in people ages 18 and older.
The study, called KidCOVE, will assess the safety and immunogenicity of mRNA-1273 in a pediatric population. The trial is being conducted in partnership with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health, and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
