No overnight warming shelters in Gresham this year
COVID-19 preventing Sunrise Center opening overnight during cold weather, free rides offered to other shelters
With freezing weather descending, some residents of East Multnomah County may be looking for an emergency warming shelter. But the COVID-19 pandemic means East County s only warming shelter won t be open for overnight stays this year.
In the past, the Sunrise Center at 18901 E. Burnside St., has been open when the temperature drops to 25 degrees or lower. But this year, due to COVID-19, the Sunrise Center will only offer a temporary place to get out of the cold and staging point for free rides to warming shelters in Portland. The center does not have enough room for sufficient distancing for overnight stays.
