The Associated Student Government Senate elected Weinberg sophomore Grace Houren as speaker of the Senate and McCormick sophomore James La Fayette Jr. as parliamentarian at its Wednesday meeting. The Associated Student Government Senate heard a new resolution on reusable to-go cups and discussed the New Student Organization Support Fund at its meeting Wednesday. Weinberg freshman and Senator Eliza Marcus proposed a resolution to introduce the cups in Northwestern dining halls as part of the Ozzi program. The program allows students to take food.
Five hundred seventy-seven students voted in ASG Senate elections over the weekend, with turnout approximately 35% higher than in last year’s elections. That was also more than triple the record-low turnout in ASG presidential elections last spring, when 175 students cast ballots. Weinberg senior Dylan Jost, ASG’s executive officer of democracy, said the heightened turnout.
