SAN ANGELO When a fight turned into gunfire Saturday at a San Angelo softball tournament, two injured people rushed to protect children in the area.
Late Saturday, May 22, 2021, police received multiple reports of gunfire at the Texas Bank Sports Complex, 1615 Rio Concho Drive. Police said at least four people received minor injures after bits of concrete and bullet fragments ricocheted from the ground and struck bystanders.
A 5-year-old child was injured in the neck, according to an arrest affidavit.
As the chaos ensued, several teammates shielded an injured softball player. A maintenance worker opened a locked janitor s closet and shepherded children inside to safety.
