Opposition take control of Cambridgeshire County Council

“Liberal Democrat, Labour, and Independent Groups on Cambridgeshire County Council have hammered out an agreement for a joint administration to run the council,” said a statement from the opposition groups.   “The document includes a policy framework, protocols for working arrangements between the groups, and a new committee structure.”  In short there will be few crumbs from the masters’ new table for the outgoing Conservatives.   Cllr Lucy Nethsingha, leader of the Liberal Democrat group, said: “I am absolutely delighted that we have been able to come to such a comprehensive and ambitious agreement for our joint administration.  “There are huge issues facing Cambridgeshire, and rebuilding after the Covid pandemic will not be easy.

Local elections 2021: Conservatives lose control of Cambridgeshire

BBC News Published image captionThe Liberal Democrats made gains on Cambridgeshire County Council The Conservatives have lost control of Cambridgeshire County Council, with no party now holding a majority at the authority. The Tories, who had been in power since 2017, remain the largest party having won 28 of the 61 available seats. But the Liberal Democrats made big gains, winning 20 seats. Peterborough City Council remains under no overall control, but the Conservatives and Labour gained one seat each. The Tories remain the largest party in the authority with 29 seats, and the next biggest is Labour, which holds 15. South Cambridgeshire District Council held by-elections for four wards: Girton, Harston and Comberton, Melbourn, and Milton and Waterbeach.
