The Lincoln Blue Tiger women’s basketball team dropped its 11th straight game on Saturday, losing to Nebraska-Kearney 70-49 in the front half of the MIAA doubleheader at Jason Gym. The Lopers jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first six minutes and never looked back. Nebraska-Kearney was able to withstand back-to-back Lincoln 3s by Niyah Jackson and Kelsey Mitchell and carried an 18-10 lead into the second quarter.

UNK women’s basketball took the MIAA title against regular season champions Fort Hays State on the Tiger’s home turf on Sunday in a thrilling 57-51 battle for the conference crown.
UNK started the game against the first seed on an impressive 13-1 run, with eight of the points being scored by Simental. The Lopers ended the quarter with the lead, 19-7.
“We had a lot of poise early on and kind of took their crowd out of it for a while,” Eighmey said. “It helped us develop a rhythm and it was a little quieter in here.”

The Health and Sports Center hosted a prime matchup Feb. 18 as the UNK women’s basketball team in the coaches poll went up against the Central Missouri Jennies. UNK ranked No. 12 in the coaches poll and No. 14 in the media poll heading into the game. The Jennies fended off UNK in a tightly contested game 66-70.
UNK struggled in the second quarter, shooting 2-19 from the field.
“They switched up and went zone, and we struggled a little bit early on,” said head coach Carrie Eighmey. “We got stagnant and that’s on me first as a coach. We did not handle that zone well in the second quarter.”
