Nodirbek Abdusattorov grabbed the lead at the Tata Steel Masters in round 5, and has topped the standings ever since. In Tuesday’s round 9, however, he could have been caught by Anish Giri, who got the better of Ding Liren in a sharp encounter. Tata Steel Chess R7: Abdusattorov extends his lead

In the most eventful round of the 2023 Tata Steel Masters so far, Nodirbek Abdusattorov extended his lead to a full point after obtaining a remarkable win over Arjun Erigaisi. Sharing second place are now four players, as Wesley So and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu both scored full points to join Anish Giri and Fabiano Caruana in the chasing pack. Nodirbek Abdusattorov is still the sole leader after six rounds at the Tata Steel Masters in Wijk aan Zee. The Uzbek GM drew his game with white, as did Anish Giri, who entered the round a half point behind in sole second place.
