In what was the Red Raiders 11th appearance in the College Classic in program history, this marks their first time to be crowned Tournament Champions. This weekend’s nine-game tournament produced Texas Tech as the only undefeated team, edging out Sam Houston and Rice and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished 0-3. The 2021 Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic All-Tournament Team was highlighted by the Classic’s Most Outstanding Player LHP Russell Smith from TCU. The Rebels used a four-run second inning to start fast and held on the rest of the way to knock off the No. 10 TCU Horned Frogs 7-3. Doug Nikhazy was relieved by Jackson Kimbrell (1-0) after 1.2 innings pitched and faced 10 batters with four strikeouts. Taylor Broadway pitched the final four innings in long relief with 61 pitches and came away with the save. Broadway allowed one hit and struck out five of 13 betters.
