SA s Olympic silver medallist Luvo Manyonga suspended for doping rule breach

South African Olympic long jump silver medallist Luvo Manyonga has been temporarily banned for failing to notify anti-doping authorities of his location, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Friday. Manyonga, who also celebrated his 30th birthday on Friday, finished second at the Rio Olympics in 2016. He now faces the prospect of missing the rescheduled Tokyo Games later this year. The AIU has charged Luvo Manyonga of South Africa for whereabouts failures, a violation of the @WorldAthletics Anti-Doping Rules. The long jumper has been provisionally suspended, the body tweeted. In 2012, Manyonga, a world champion in 2017 and Commonwealth champion in 2018, was banned for 18 months after testing positive for recreational drug methamphetamine.

The 2014 World Under-20 800 meters champion becomes the latest in a long list of Kenyan athletes banned over the same from the start of last year, the first in 2021. Kipketer is reported to have had four whereabouts failures, from having missed the first test on 27 November 2017 to the fourth on 11 September 2019. “The Athlete has committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation under the ADR by virtue of having had four Missed Tests in the twelve-month period beginning on 27 November 2018, specifically, a missed Test on 27 November 2018, 16 March 2019, 5 August 2019 and 11 September 2019,” explained AIU.

Olympic silver medalist Luvo Manyonga suspended in doping case MONACO Olympic long jump silver medalist Luvo Manyonga was provisionally suspended in a doping case on Friday and could be banned from this year s Tokyo Games. The Athletics Integrity Unit said it sent Manyonga a notice of charge in the case, which is based on suspected breaches of whereabouts rules. The South African long jumper is the latest world champion to be investigated regarding whereabouts rules missing out-of-competition doping tests or failing to update details of where they can be contacted by sample collection officials. Manyonga won gold at the 2017 world championships in London. He finished fourth two years later in Doha.
