During questioning, the accused persons disclosed that they would contact gullible persons through WhatsApp and Telegram and befriend them in order to make them invest in the online trading scheme.
The duo had put out an app on Google Play store through which they lured Indian citizens into making easy money online, according to the STF. The arrested persons have been identified as Feng Chenjin and Huang Kuan. Two passports were also found from them, one of which had expired, the STF said in a statement.
A group of six people, two men and four women, was arrested by the North West district Cyber Cell for running a fake call centre. The group used to dupe people on the pretext of renewing their documents like driving licences and passports.
The cyber fraudsters used to impersonate government officials from the vaccination department to lure victims to take a booster dose, following which they used to hack their WhatsApp accounts and drop distress messages to victims' contact list, asking them for money.
