In this year’s fest, which opens Wednesday and runs through Sunday, artists had to grapple with creating structures that can stand the weather, bear the open land and compete with nature itself.
“In previous years, art could basically hang out in a lobby or could be a cool thing that you see in the middle of the street; it can have some of its own life,” art installations coordinator Kate Gorman said.
In contrast, for this year’s installations, “they re basically creating the entire venue space.”
A lot of the art is being set in a field, which artists have the new responsibility of transforming into a creative gathering point, Gorman said.
