Tom Lounges As the fiercely independent grandson of outlaw country icons Jessie Colter and Waylon Jennings (his step-grandfather), and the nephew of country star Shooter Jennings, it is not surprising that young Struggle Jennings has a broad streak of outlaw in his DNA. And he s determined to leave a legacy of his own in music. Local Scene: Live music options shaping up for summer fun

Tom Lounges More and more outdoor shows are being announced for the Spring/Summer months around the Region. Most of them are all ages, free to the public community events. Giovanni Taliaferro, the Director of Memorabilia Design for Hard Rock International, gave a guided tour of music memorabilia tied to the Jackson family on Wednesday. Crown Point s Bulldog Park Pavilion (183 S. West St.) again features live music performances through the summer and fall months. Some, in tandem to the city s Thursday afternoon Classic Car Cruises, feature the bands Soundz Of Santana, Mellencougar, Oscar & The Majestics, The Relics, Blues Fuse, among others. Taste of Crown Point on July 16 and 17 has tribute acts Echoes of Pompeii and The MegaBeatles, headlining respectively. Region rockers step up for Hobart Art Theatre

Tom Lounges The local music community, stuck at home for the past year, is finally getting out to fire up their amps now that restrictions are loosening up a bit here in the Northwest Indiana area. Giovanni Taliaferro, Director of Memorabilia Design for Hard Rock International, uncrated the “Guitar the Changed the World” on Thursday. The guitar will be displayed inside the casino as part of the music memorabilia collection. Several bands realize musicians are not the only ones who have been affected by and suffered from the extended COVID-induced shut down. Seven heavy and hard rock groups are taking the opportunity this Saturday to step up and help one of the key venues in Northwest Indiana that has been home to some of the Region s heavier bands for the last couple of years.

Liquor license applicants getting another shot

VALPARAISO — The next City Council meeting will feature restaurateurs making their pitches for a valuable downtown liquor license. It’s work that a city committee is tasked with doing before the applications are forwarded to the council for final approval, but that process broke down this time, City Attorney Patrick Lyp said, so the best solution is for a do-over at the council level. “The thought process was that this was the fairest way to proceed for all parties involved,” he said. The committee includes a nonvoting member who is a restaurant professional to offer guidance as needed in evaluating the applicants. Not until after the March 24 committee meeting made its choice did Lyp learn about a clear conflict of interest, he said.

20 years of pouring and playing at Finnegan s Pub

Tom Lounges Popular Irish watering hole, Finnegan s Pub (1074 Joliet St.) in Dyer, is gearing up for its 20th Anniversary Party this weekend. Pub owners Roger and Pattijo Porter will celebrate the milestone anniversary all weekend as friends and regular customers pop in and out to share in their good cheer.
