While he was able to keep one of harness racing s longest win streaks alive, the Saturday card of harness racing at Century Mile was a bittersweet one in a bittersweet year for Rod Hennessy.
The longtime horseman made a rare appearance in the sulky on Saturday, winning the ninth race of the evening card with Ivar. Rod noted that he was pressed into action after his son Mike opted for another horse in that race and the Alberta driving colony is short at the moment for a number of reasons.
That win was his first of the year, and a glance at his racelines on TrackIT would indicate that Hennessy has now won a race as a driver in 44 consecutive seasons. When asked about the streak, Hennessy figures that 44 year span is surely short.
