Held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, the event featured a medley of acts designed to honor African heritage. Kwanzaa, which translates to “first fruits” in Swahili, was created during the Civil Rights Movement as a holiday to uplift pan-African identity.
“Legacy as Balance” is the theme of the 2023 Capital City Kwanzaa Festival, which is presented by the Elegba Folklore Society, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center Saturday, Dec. 30.
The seven-day Kwanzaa holiday is in full swing, with the largest community event in Virginia set to take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Greater Richmond Conven-
tion Center in Downtown.
The Elegba Folklore Society is bringing Black-centered holiday cheer, with the return of the annual Capital City Kwanzaa Festival on Saturday, Dec. 30, in Exhibit Hall B of the Greater Richmond Convention Center from 1 to 7 p.m.
