Is this the first energy deal?
This is not the first agreement for municipal energy aggregation, as energy aggregation was approved by the residents of Galesburg with the election in November 2012. Since that time, the city has negotiated four municipal aggregation agreements on behalf of the citizens. The last agreement is scheduled to expire with the July 2021 meter read.
Do residents opt in or out?
Residents and small commercial businesses will soon receive a letter from the city of Galesburg C/O Homefield Energy detailing the terms of the supply arrangement. Enrollment in the aggregation program is automatic and users only need to take action if they choose to opt-out of the program. The new agreement will take effect with the July 2021 meter read date and will be active through the July 2024 meter read date. The agreement will be for 100% renewable power at $0.05499 per kWh with Homefield Energy.
