The Senate, on Thursday, moved to block revenue leakages from medical tourism with the consideration of a bill that would see to the reduced number of Nigerians traveling to other countries for medical care.
The bill titled: Federal Medical Centres (Establishment) Bill, 2021, was sponsored by Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (APC, Adamawa Central).
Leading debate on the bill, Senator Ahmed said the absence of a legal framework for the regulation, development and management of Federal Medical Centers to set standards for rendering health services was responsible for hindering the provision of intensive, effective and efficient health care services to the people of Nigeria.

ABUJA – SENATORS and members of the House of Representatives from Zamfara state on Wednesday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency, grant Amnesty to repentant armed bandits from the North West geo- political zone of the country.
The Zamfara National Assembly Caucus who are all of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP said that offering the repentant armed bandits Amnesty like in the case of the agitators from the Niger Delta would encourage them to contribute positively to the society.

A group under the aegis of Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum has appealed to the Senate to grant fair hearing to Abdulrasheed Bawa, who was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari as Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman.
Mr Prince Kpokpogri, Chairman of the anti-corruption group, made the appeal in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja while commending Buhari for nominating Bawa for the position.
“It is a new dawn in EFCC, we are appealing to the Senate to consider Bawa worthy of this position by giving him a fair screening and confirmation.

THE Senate yesterday asked the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, resuscitate all the moribund industries across the country in order to address the problem of unemployment, armed banditry, Kidnapping, other cases of insecurity, poverty, among others in Nigeria.
The Senate has also urged the Federal Government to through the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs in conjunction with other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies develop strategic framework for the promotion of the establishment and development of cottage industries in all the 774 LGAs of

The call was made on Tuesday after the Upper Chamber considered a motion on the need to create job opportunities, reduce poverty and rural-urban drift.
Sponsor of the motion, Senator Degi-Eremienyo, W. Biobarakuma (APC – Bayelsa East), in his presentation, noted the dearth of cottage industries in rural communities and the critical role it plays in the provision of large employment opportunities.
