JAMMU, Feb 1: Elections for the posts of chairpersons and vice chairpersons in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir will be held on February 6 followed by others and the exercise in all 20 districts will be completed before February 20 as the State Election Commission (SEC) today overruled all objections/representations as “devoid of any merit” on reservation of the posts of Chairpersons for the District Development Councils (DDCs) and released final roster of reserved seats, which was same as the draft proposal issued on January 25.

SRINAGAR: Results of two DDC segments Drugmulla (Kupwara) and Hajin-A (Bandipora) is withheld as 278 declared results put the BJP as the single largest party and the PAGD as the single biggest alliance. BJP won 75 DDC berths and PAGD secured 110 berths.
State Election Commissioner K K Sharma said in Jammu that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged the single largest party with registering win on 75 DDC constituencies followed by J&K National Conference with 67 seats while PDP won 27 and Indian National Congress (INC) Won 26 seats. Similarly, newly formed J&K Apni Party (JKAP) won 12 while JKPC and CPI-M bagged 8 and 5 seats respectively, he added.

Srinagar, Dec 21: The fate of nearly 4,200 candidates for the 280 District Development Council (DDC) seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be decided on Tuesday, as counting of votes will begin for the eight-phase polls held for the first time in the union territory.
Officials in the State Election Commission said a total of 4,181 candidates, including over 450 women, were in the fray for the the 280 DDC seats. The elections to this third tier of the Panchayati Raj system were held for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir and were the first mass polls after the abrogation of provisions of Article 370 in August 2019.
