A former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has urged Governor Seyi Makinde of the State to without further delay, investigate what led to the death of a toddler in Ogbomoso on Thursday.
DAILY POST had reported how a toddler was allegedly killed on Thursday in Ogbomoso during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign.
The governor who was in Ogbomoso ahead of Saturday’s local government election had said that his convoy was not the one responsible for the death of the deceased.
But, Alao-Akala while reacting, called on Makinde to ensure that a thorough investigation is carried out to unravel what led to the death of the toddler.
He began his political career from his state (Plateau) until he became a national figure. His political journey, which commenced in the late 1970s with the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), stretched through the 90s when he became a member of the National Republican Convention (NRC) during General Ibrahim Babangida’s regime (when there were only two political parties in Nigeria). He was also a member of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).
When General Sani Abacha passed on in 1998, General Abdulsalam Abubakar who became the Head of Interim National Government dissolved the existing political parties and prepared the ground for a more democratic setting which he actualized and then handed over to President Olusegun Obasanjo, who won the general election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999.
A former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, has advised the incumbent Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, to without wasting more time, postpone the forthcoming local government election in the state.
DAILY POST recalls that the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) had fixed Saturday, May 22nd 2021 as the date for the conduct of local government election in the thirty-three (33) local government areas of the state.
Alao-Akala has, however, urged Makinde to postpone the poll.
The former governor said that the need to postpone the election became necessary in view of the Friday’s supreme court judgement, which faulted the dissolution of the chairmen who were elected during the tenure of the immediate past governor of the state, late Abiola Ajimobi.

Former Governor of Oyo State and Chairman, Elders Advisory Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala has urged the Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde to postpone the forthcoming local government election scheduled for the third week of May 2021 to a later date in order to protect the sanctity of the nation’s developing democracy.
Alao-Akala gave this advice while reacting to the supreme court judgement that invalidated the sack of the duly elected 33 local Government area chairmen in Oyo state.
According to the former governor, now that the dust has settled on the legality or otherwise of the sack of the chairmen, it is trite in law for Governor Makinde to see that there is the need to postpone the election.
