What would you do if your dream of sailing around the world was crushed by a pandemic and you ended up stuck in a country at the bottom of the Pacific?
From San Francisco, Connor was placed into foster care as a 15-year-old and jumped between homes. She remembers feeling like she was treated as if she wasn’t the same as other kids her age and was always told to do the “suitable thing” rather than dream big.

Connor sails past the Spirit of Adventure on the Waitematā Harbour. (File photo) But she didn’t stop those big dreams and arrived in New Zealand in December 2019 on the first leg of a solo round the world trip. She expected to be here five months. Then lockdown hit, and Connor was stuck.
