Korean sentenced to 8 years in prison in DUI death of Taiwanese

Taipei, April 14 (CNA) A 52-year-old South Korean driver, accused of killing a Taiwanese pedestrian in a drunk driving accident in Seoul last year, was sentenced Wednesday to eight years in prison, according to Korean media.
South Korean prosecutors had been seeking a six-year sentence, but the court on Wednesday gave the driver eight years in prison for killing Taiwanese PhD student Elaine Tseng (曾以琳) in the road accident, Yonhap News Agency (YNA) reported.
In the court s ruling, it said the driver was a third-time DUI offender.

Taipei, March 8 (CNA) The father of a Taiwanese woman who was killed by a drunk driver in Seoul in November last year is unhappy that South Korean prosecutors have only sought a six-year jail term for the driver, saying Monday that it was too lenient.
The 28-year-old woman, Elaine Tseng (曾以琳), was a Ph.D. student at Torch Trinity Graduate University in Seoul. On Nov. 6, she was hit and killed by a drunk driver who ran a red light as she was walking home from a professor s residence.
