Commuter rail to northern Mecklenburg County has been on the drawing board for decades. In that time, there have been numerous efforts to get the project on track while light rail lines were built to the south and northeast corners of Charlotte.
All the while, northern Mecklenburg has been paying the county s transit tax. To be sure, so have all other parts of the county. But political and business leaders in northern Mecklenburg have already drawn a line in the sand over the Charlotte Moves task force proposal to raise the tax to help build out, among other things, the commuter rail line.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Charlotte-Mecklenburg isn t known for its amount of parks or greenspace.
Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation is working to release the plans in February that would help fix that problem and some on the board of county commissioners are eyeing a bond as a possible way to fund it.
Currently, there are 210 parks in the county on roughly 21,000 acres of land that s hard to come by these days.

Facing scrutiny from Commissioner Laura Meier and Vice Chair Elaine Powell, Mecklenburg County leaders on Wednesday defended their decision to temporarily close parks at dusk.
The closures are in response to Health Director Gibbie Harris’ directive urging residents to only engage in essential activities.
The park closures at dusk impact residents who wish to play basketball and tennis on lighted courts because they can’t get to the parks during the day due to work or school. Powell said she has received hundreds of emails on the topic.
