Letters to the editor: Reducing carbon footprint

Letters to the Editor: RHNA targets, SB 9

Hard work needed to meet RHNA targets Thank you to the Town Crier for the editorial highlighting the dire need for additional housing in Los Altos (“Magic needed to meet RHNA quota,” June 23). The editorial stated that “magic is what it may take to meet the new RHNA targets.” I suggest that it’s not magic, but hard work, planning and new policies that are needed to reach the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA). We’re starting to meet those targets with two housing developments: 330 Distel Circle will have at least 90 affordable units, and 5150 El Camino Real could provide 196 new units. Also, Los Altos permitted 22 accessory dwelling units last year.

Letters to the Editor: Affordable housing, small business support

Re: “Local officials discuss Los Altos’ first all-affordable housing project” (Feb. 2): For the first time in many years, I feel proud to live in Los Altos. This is because the city council is finally allowing affordable housing to be built. The decision not to stop development of new housing is the responsible, equitable and environmental thing to do. For years now, the Association of Bay Area Governments has asked Los Altos to build our share of new housing in order to solve this terrible housing crisis. I felt ashamed as Los Altos repeatedly refused to do its part. The only way that we can address the growing inequality in our country is to provide affordable housing in cities like Los Altos. When children living in Distel Circle attend quality Los Altos schools, they will have a shot at the elusive American dream.
