Bieniemy s not just a facilitator for this group
The Miners haven t had a true point guard like Jamal Bieniemy since Dominic Artis manned the position in 2017. The Oklahoma transfer point guard was called to be more of a facilitator in the Big 12, averaging 5.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.9 minutes as a sophomore in 2019-20.
Bieniemy, who joined a UTEP team that lacked a true point guard, has seen his numbers increase seven games into the season in more of an expanded role under Rodney Terry s system. He s averaging 10.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. In the Southern Miss series he was a difference-maker, scoring 18 and 20 points, respectively, during the two matchups.
