Security Council delegation arrives in North Darfur

The delegation will visit the region to investigate and address security concerns. In the South Sudan capital Juba, founder and leader of the mainstream Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW) Abdelwahid El Nur announced the launch of a national initiative to address the roots of the security crisis through a national dialogue. Upon its arrival, the delegation held a meeting with the state government and the state security committee to discuss the security situation in the state, the gradual exit process of the joint United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), the requirements for the voluntary return of the displaced, and the role of the African Union in Sudan’s democratic transition.

SLM s El Nur visits Juba to discuss Sudanese peace

March 16 - 2021 JUBA Abdelwahid El Nur in Paris (RD - file photo) Abdelwahid El Nur, founder and leader of the mainstream Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW), arrived in the capital of South Sudan yesterday to discuss his vision for a comprehensive and sustainable peace in Sudan. In a statement, the SLM-AW confirmed that the visit to Juba is unrelated to their negotiations with the Sudanese government in Khartoum, about which the SLM-AW has already expressed its opinion. In the statement, they explain that the visit followed the generous invitation by the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, to discuss and think about the best way to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable peace in Sudan and listen to the SLM-AW vision on achieving peace.

Central Darfur gov claims state is free of COVID-19

March 12 - 2021 KHARTOUM / ZALINGEI Wali of Central Darfur, Adeeb Abdelrahman (SUNA) The wali (governor) of Central Darfur, Adeeb Abdelrahman, announced that “ the state is free from any Coronavirus infection,” and defended the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdelwahid El Nur (SLM-AW), saying that it does not compromise services, agriculture, or mining in the state. The governor said that the COVID-19 report in the state is zero, adding that quarantine centres at localities in the state are free from any coronavirus cases. He also pointed out that the state only registered seven COVID-19 cases during the first wave of the pandemic.

Two Darfur rebel group SLM-AW supporters arrested during rally

February 27 - 2021 TABIT SLM-AW leader Abdelwahid El nur (File photo) Military intelligence arrested two El Fasher university students, Hamdi Issa Yahya and Abdelrahman Musa, during a speech organised by students who support the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdelwahid El Nur (SLM-AW) on Friday. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that a group of students from El Fasher University loyal to the SLM-AW leader held a speech about justice in the village of Tabit in North Darfur, to address presenting the perpetrators of genocide and rapes to the courts and demanding the extradition of those wanted by the International Criminal Court. The witnesses indicated that the Military intelligence stopped the speeches and arrested the two students.
