Tomoki Kameda set for May 22nd return in Toyonaka

Photo By Tom Hogan/Golden Boy/Getty Images Asian Boxing reports that former bantamweight champion and super bantamweight title challenger Tomoki Kameda, out of action for nearly two years, will return to the ring on May 22nd in Toyonaka, Osaka, Japan. The bout was originally scheduled for the 5th before Osaka’s state of emergency, which also postponed the excellent flyweight title fight between Junto Nakatani and Angel Acosta, forced a delay. The 29-year-old Kameda (36-3, 20 KO) made three defenses of the WBO bantamweight title before a pair of narrow losses to Jamie McDonnell sent him to 122 pounds. There, he defeated Abigail Medina for the interim belt en route to a clash with world champ Rey Vargas, who soundly outboxed “El Mexicanito” en route to a unanimous decision.
