Deaths, kidnapping and threats as herdsmen force cattle onto Darfur farms

Two displaced people were killed, a third was wounded, and a fourth was kidnapped in attacks on farmers by armed herdsmen on Tuesday and Wednesday in Kutum, North Darfur. Displaced farmers in Central Darfur have been held at gunpoint as herders let their camels graze on the farmed pastures.

North Darfur s Kutum still far from secure, Saraf Omra under control

May 7 - 2021 KUTUM / SARAF OMRA Gunmen in Darfur (File photo) A displaced man was killed by militant herders in Kutum, North Darfur on Thursday. Paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of Saraf Omra yesterday. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, activist Yahya El Khumus told Radio Dabanga that Mohamed Sabah was on his way from the Fata Borno camp for the displaced to Kutum town when he was shot dead by militant herders. “It happened in in Khor Jagedeldei, three kilometres from Kutum,” he said. “The perpetrators then fled in north-western direction.” El Khumus criticised the security forces in Kutum. “The joint forces were informed early, but arrived at the scene more than three hours after the attack.”

Lawlessness continues in North Darfur s Kutum

Two people were seriously injured yesterday when the attackers fired at a passenger car in the area of Khor Aweeja. During the weekend, militant Arab herders, riding in 15 vehicles, intercepted traffic on the road north of Kutum, and robbed the drivers and passengers of their money and belongings, activist Yahya El Khumus told Radio Dabanga. A large number of drivers and passengers were injured during the attacks. On Sunday, two men, Abubakir Mohamed and Ismail Khalil, sustained serious bullet wounds and had to be transferred to the hospital of Kutum.
