Murder suspect walks out of jail, remains at large

EL CENTRO — A 21-year-old murder suspect remained at large Saturday night after he was released in error from the Imperial County Jail Friday. Imperial County Sheriff’s Office said Athan Emmanuel Estrada was released from the jail at 8 p.m. after he assumed the identity of another inmate. Estrada was arrested by El Centro Police Wednesday in a domestic violence incident. He was later charged separately for murder as the suspect in a June 7 shooting at the Crown Motel, 330 N. Imperial Ave. That shooting reportedly led to the death of 28-year-old Pablo Dominguez, of El Centro. ICSO said in a release it is already investigating how the error occurred and has already conducted multiple interviews to uncover exactly what transpired Friday. In addition, an administrative investigation is also underway.

Woman reunited with her dentures A woman told El Centro Police Monday morning that her husband took her dentures after he became upset with her and wouldn’t give them back. El Centro Police Department radio logs said the woman called the incident in about 8:01 a.m. as she was waiting outside the Walmart Supercenter. The initial report indicated the choppers were swiped at that location, but later the woman told police her husband took them from home and she followed him to the store. Police eventually spoke with the husband, who admitted he had hidden the dentures and had refused to return them. He apparently relented and agreed to reunite his wife with her teeth.

Arizona woman arrested in connection with Indio hotel murder Arizona woman arrested in connection with Indio hotel murder A woman from Arizona has been arrested in connection with the murder of 27-year-old found at a motel in Indio last month. The murder happened back on March 31, 2021 at the City Center Motel on Indio Boulevard. Police found Ashley Brito, 27, of Thousand Palms was found dead with gunshot wounds inside a room at the hotel. Detectives were able to identify the suspect, who was located early in the morning on Monday at a motel in El Centro. The suspect had already been arrested by El Centro Police for unrelated charges, but officers later learned she had provided a false identity at the hotel.
