Regional advocates say the COVID-19 pandemic is taking a big toll on an already weak child-care system. Jamie Basiliere, Executive Director of the Child Care Council of the North Country, says programs are closing. “You know, we’ve lost slots. 200 slots in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin counties!”
It s because centers and providers walk a financial tightrope, only made worse by the coronavirus pandemic. And by the numbers, it s home providers that are closing their doors for good.
