tornadoes. already 20 of those have been confirmed. the weather service has people out in the field who make sure they are real tornadoes. 12 fatalities, over 100 injured. we had the first february tornado in nebraska the branson, missouri tornado. the one that really stands out was the ef4 tornado. they upped the winds now to 180 miles per hour. that was the max winds with this tornado as it went through harrisburg, illinois. that destroyed the shopping center. tore it to pieces. also strong storms and tornadoes yesterday in areas of kentucky and a couple fatalities from storms in tennessee. as far as what we re dealing with out there as we go through tonight and tomorrow, another severe weather threat from st. louis, springfield and memphis. it s not during the daylight hours, so those areas can clean up nicely. it will move into the middle of the country today.

damaged. a hundred homes destroyed. no deaths as a result of the 135-mile an hour tornado. the national weather service says it was the most powerful twister in st. louis since 1967. this incredible surveillance video of a tornado slamming into the airport there in st. louis. it shattered windows, ripped off part of the roof, passengers inside were warned, get away from the windows and they went scrambling for safety. we look out next to it and we see the plane in the gate right to our left just immediately slides about 15 or 20 yards away from the gate. at that point everyone on our plane just immediately starts streaming for the exit. we were still connected to the gate, we were able to runoff. by the time we got to the terminal lights were out, glass everywhere, blood everywhere from where people had been cut. reporter: that twister also flattened whole neighborhoods, destroyed hundreds of homes. rick is in bridgeton missouri
and the pictures speak volumes. reporter: they really do. they say it s the strongest tornado in the st. louis area since 1967. the strongest tornado in the country this year, the first ef4 tornado. this is the kind of damage it does. these are brick structured homes not insignificant homes. this home all of the outside walls completely collapsed. the sad story with this home, it was up for sale and had a sale pending. they were supposed to close on thursday, and the woman who was buying it so excited to move here because her sister lives right down the street. her sister s home sustain significant damage and now she probably can t buy this home either. you can see down the street a car turned upside down, devastation everywhere you turn. everybody has to figure out what you do. the first couple of days have been spent getting their things that matter to them out, things like pictures, family hei, rlooms and photographs. they ve done that.
