Partnership helps fight pest plants invasion

Sunshine Coast Council Landholders are urged to join the fight against pest plants as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s renewed commitment to weed them out. Council today (22 July) endorsed a 12-month Biosecurity Surveillance Program at its Ordinary Meeting. Council officers will proactively monitor the extent of invasive plants across the region and partner with landholders to manage target species on their properties. Those being targeted include groundsel bush, cat’s clawcreeper, fireweed, giant rat’s tail grasses and salvinia. Environment Portfolio Councillor Peter Cox said landholder support was critical to the program’s success. “Proactively managing invasive plants within our region takes a team effort with both private and publicly owned property included within the surveillance target area,” Cr Cox said.

40mm in an hour: Isolated falls drench suburbs

Sunshine Coast Airport had 15mm, still a reasonable drop. Still expect today (Wednesday) to be reasonably wet, 10-20mm at least and widespread again. It will be heavier the further north you go with 40mm-plus for the isolated showers. Mr Kennedy said New Year s Eve and Day were predicted to be wet, however the rain would slowly ease off. There should be still a few showers around the 5-10mm range, mainly in the late morning and afternoon, easing off by the evening, he said. New Year s Day is a similar story. There will still be persistent little showers over the weekend, getting lighter as it goes.
