Minister concerned by parliament s plan to cut expat tax break

Dutch Senate approves the introduction of a binding corrective referendum

The Eerste Kamer, the upper house of the Dutch parliament, voted on Tuesday in favor of the introduction of a binding corrective referendum. Out of the senators present, 45 voted in favor and 22 against the bill proposed by SP. The Tweede Kamer, the lower house of the Dutch parliament, already voted in favor of the bill in February. However, the Senate's vote on Tuesday does not guarantee the implementation of the referendum. Because it involves a constitutional amendment, a two-thirds majority is required in both Chambers.

Asylum distribution law wins majority of MP s but Senate support uncertain

A majority of the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of the Dutch parliament, approved the asylum distribution law aimed at ensuring a fair distribution of asylum seekers among municipalities. However, it remains highly uncertain whether the law, proposed by State Secretary for Asylum and Migration Eric van der Burg will get a majority in the Eester Kamer, the upper house of the Dutch parliament.

Asylum distribution law likely to get majority in parliament, but Senate support shaky

On Tuesday, a parliamentary majority supported an amendment by the SP to also consider a municipality’s socio-economic situation when distributing asylum seekers. The SP will, therefore, vote in favor of the distribution law. That means there is majority support in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of the Dutch parliament, for the law that should ensure a fair distribution of asylum seekers among municipalities, several MPs confirm.
