NEWTON Registered Democrats and Republicans will go to the polls Tuesday in the state s primary election to decide which candidates will carry the party banner into the November elections.
The County Clerk s office will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for early in-person voting. It is too late to apply for a mail-in ballot, however, the clerk s office will be open during normal business hours Friday and Monday for people to apply for a ballot in person.
The office is located in the Cochran House Building, 83 Spring St.
Republicans will also elect their local representatives to the state and county party committees on Tuesday. Democrats vote in even-numbered year primary.
There is, however, a second committee seat available this year. David Silverthorne is the only Republican candidate running for the two-year, unexpired term created by the resignation of Chris Carney, who left to take a position on the Sussex County Board of Commissioners.
No Democrats filed to get that party s line on the November ballot, however, potential candidates can still file petitions by the close of business on primary day, June 8, for a place on the November ballot.
