CTUSAB slams BPSA over job security comments

CTUSAB slams BPSA over job security comments Article by December 22, 2020 The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) has dismissed a suggestion from the Barbados Private Sector Association that “permanent” and “long-term” job security is increasingly becoming a thing of the past. President of the umbrella trade union organization, Edwin O’Neal has warned in response to the new, “hostile” working class environment, there must be a re-examination of existing salary scales and overall discussions on remuneration. The debate began during a press conference on Friday, in which CTUSAB’s top brass accused the private sector of worker exploitation, in the face of increasing joblessness. According to the union, one of the major avenues for this exploitation is through the imposition of unusually short-term contracts, with the expectation that workers, desperate for employment, will accept, according to the Congress.
