community college, a great investment. a study down saying for every year of community college, whether or not you graduate, earnings go up 8%. the cost is lower than four-year institutions, as you know. normally a quarter of the cost of a four-year institution. in many cases the state s university system is required to take community college graduates. that s why enrollment has skyrocketed for community colleges. one in two college students decide to go to two-year institution. when you look at the big bills that people have when they graduate from a four-year school, this is a way to reduce that. edwin koch director of strategic and foundation research at the national association of colleges and employers. thanks very much for being with us. good morning. good morning, chris. so, i was fascinated by this study because we re obviously in a very tough job environment. and we do know, we can look and track where the jobs are available. in this economy, do targeted degrees and as
to some extent, there has been a movement towards more specific technical degrees that has been true for a number of years. there really hasn t been a tremendous influx into those areas, however. from the rliberal arts degree represent 45% of the total degrees delivered at the end of the bachelor s degree period. is that hasn t changed much since 1970s. is it because people can t figure out what they want to do? not just that they can t figure out what they want to do but the liberal arts degree offers advantages in terms of being flexible, once they get out of college. and the course work, particul particularly appeals to some students. as a liberal arts graduate, i have no complaints about my education. it s a fascinating study. thank you, edwin koch. cleveland fans, back to the drawing board for the browns. eric mangini, fired by browns
