One may wonder if Vivek Ramaswamy really believes the nonsense he spouts about racism in this country, but whether sincere or cynical, he is stealing a page from Donald Trump’s book.

Itâs not just about limitless terms â clout is broad
As stated in your Jan. 2 editorial, âA speakership without limits is a bad idea,â âthere are few guardrails on the (largely) benevolent dictatorship that is the governing model for the House speakership.â The editorial fails to detail the breadth of control of the speaker of the Massachusetts House; itâs not just about indeterminate term limits.
There is little transparency in the process itself, which makes it difficult for concerned citizens, generally volunteers, to effectively promote new legislation. The speaker controls the process and often prevents votes and debate and curbs (or heightens) the role of outside interests.
