A Jacksonville man facing charges following an accident that left one man dead may go to trial in October.
Edward E. Baldwin III, 30, appeared in court Thursday with his attorney, Tom Piper, and asked for a continuance in his case.
Baldwin is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury and failing to report an accident with injuries.
He was charged after leaving the South East Street scene where his vehicle and a motorcycle being ridden by Richard Jackson Gregory collided in April; Gregory later died.
Baldwin will appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29 for a pre-trial conference, with a tentative trial start date of Oct. 4.

Those who knew Richard Jackson Gregory say he will be missed.
Members of the Rudi’s Grill staff have been asking for prayers for Gregory and his family since his accident.
“In addition to being part of our natural family, Jackson has been a part of our Rudi’s family since he was 17,” the business said in a Facebook post. “He is a reliable, hard working, respectful young man that any parent would be proud of … He has become one of our best employees. His combination of work ethic, dedication and responsibility is very rare.”

A 22-year-old man found lying in a Jacksonville road after an accident two weeks ago has died.
Funeral arrangements for Richard Jackson Gregory, 22, of Jacksonville are pending. Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Family members confirmed Gregory died Monday at Memorial Medical Center. He had been transferred to the Springfield hospital shortly after police found him about 9:40 p.m. April 13 after they responded to a report about a crash in the 400 block of South East Street.
Police said he was lying near a motorcycle, which indicated he was the victim of a hit-and-run accident. Subsequent reports have said the vehicle was a mini-bike, but police have not confirmed those.
