A Peek at the Renovated Thornbury Castle, the Only Tudor Castle You Can Stay In Ulrike Lemmin-Woolfrey © Condé Nast Traveler
After extensive renovations and modernizations, England’s last licensed castle and the only Tudor castle operating as a luxury hotel is set to reopen in May after a year-long closure and multi-million-dollar refurbishment of all the rooms and suites.
Built in 1511, Thornbury Castle in southwest England is a castle straight out of a fairy tale, with crenelations, a chunky octagonal tower, bay windows, walled courtyards, turrets, and chimneys, all set in large grounds with cedar and sequoia trees. The property is guarded by a gate house at the entryway leading into the estate from the country road.
